A Musical Bridge Between Worlds

Anang Binesi is an emerging Indigenous percussionist and composer from Manidoo Bawitigong, located in Treaty #3, Ontario. Their music is a blend of Anishinaabe worldviews with contemporary styles, bridging cultural traditions with Western art music. Currently, Anang Binesi is exploring ways to reconnect with music, creating works that center on storytelling, identity, and meaningful reconnection.

Growing up in their community, Anang Binesi was surrounded by his Anishinaabe culture. They attended powwows, danced powwow, and spent time with the other kids in the community. These experiences instilled a deep connection to their heritage, even though they were not raised in a highly traditional way. Now, they embrace opportunities to attend ceremony and draw inspiration from their culture to guide their artistic journey.

What sets Anang Binesi apart is their ability to honor their roots while challenging the boundaries of the classical music canon. Their compositions focus on themes of self-discovery, relationship-building, and the spiritual nature of music, creating new spaces for Indigenous representation in the arts.

Anang Binesi is excited about upcoming projects that bring together tradition and innovation. Stay connected to their journey and learn more about their music by visiting their website, following on social media, or reaching out directly.
